Amy’s Kitchen Opens On-Site Employee Health Clinic

WHITE CITY, Ore. -- A Southern Oregon employer has decided to bring the doctor's office to it's employee's and their families.

For employees at the Amy's Manufacturing Facility, quality health care is now just a few steps away. With a cut of a ribbon, owners and employees officially welcomed Amy's Family Health Center, an on site clinic for crew members.

The center opened January 3rd and offers same-day appointments at a convenient location. For some, the concept of an on-site clinic is new, but for others the entire medical care experience is unfamiliar.

Some of the services provided include annual physicals and injury treatments. All at a cost of a 5-dollar co pay. The clinic also has bilingual staff at the center.

Patients are also offered extended appointments to discuss long-range health and wellness strategies. Owners say this health care facility is set to benefit approximately 700 employees at their White City location.

Best New Low-Cal Meals

Good Housekeeping

To keep your diet resolve, you don't have to settle for a soggy deli salad for a quick lunch or dinner. We screened 294 frozen entrées, accepting only those that came in under 400 calories, had no trans fat, and met nutritionist-approved limits for sodium and saturated fat. We ended up with 21 newly launched single-serve meals. Then over the course of three weeks, we handed out nearly 400 boxes and steam bags and had our crew of lunchtime volunteers nuke and nibble, score, and write detailed reviews. They proclaimed these 13 dishes the tastiest of the bunch.

1. Amy's Light & Lean Soft taco Fiesta
" Tastes like real Mexican takeout," noted one reviewer, reflecting the enthusiasm of the group. The meal, with its beans, corn, and other veggies, also scores nutritionally, delivering a healthy hit of fiber and vitamins A and C. 220 Calories

2. Amy's Light & Lean Spinach Lasagna
A close second ("pasta had a good taste and texture"), with appreciation from volunteers for the "nice portion size" as well. A few would have welcomed "more cheese". 250 Calories

3. Amy's Light & Lean Pasta & Veggies
While a couple of participants were disappointed by "too-soft noodles," the "crisp veggies" and "restaurant quality tast" earned high praise. 210 Calories

6. Amy's Light & Lean Sweet & Sour Asian Noodle Bowl
"Tasty" appeared in many reviews, as did surprise at how well the veggies held up to microwaving. Downside: " a little too salty." 250 calories

8. Amy's Light & Lean 3 Cheese Penne Marinara
A few volunteers thought the portion size was small, but many "loved" the cheese and found this entree "full of flavor." 270 calories

10. Amy's Light & Lean Spaghetti Italiano
The lentil-quinoa-tofu meatballs were a nice surprise for some nonvegetarians ("Delish!" said one); others found them "grainy." 240 calories

Bean lovers appreciated the abundance, though cheese fans were a bit disappointed. Some felt this entree would be better as a snack. 280 calories

"You can get lots of protein, fiber, and carbs for not a lot of calories." Research shows that eating soup before a meal reduces calorie intake during that meal by 20 percent, making it great for weight loss. Whether you want a hearty postrun meal or a satisfying prerun lunch, these soups are easy to make- and savor. Each recipe yields two to three servings and tastes even better as leftovers.
