7 Back-to-School Stress Busters

Starting a new school year, with
academic pressures and relationship issues, can stress anyone
out. But there’s
good news: you can convert the stress that debilitates you
into good stress that actually pushes you to succeed. Here’s
how!
1. Envision Serene Settings
Circumstances themselves don’t
stress us out; how we respond to them does. If you’re
facing a sweat-inducing situation or person, be armed with
a beautiful scene (a waterfall, forest, or beach, for example)
to think about during the crisis. By visualizing calming
scenery, you can prevent the pressures of the moment from
upsetting you. PERSONAL CALM WILL GET YOU THROUGH EACH CRISIS.
2.
Let Go of Grudges
Avoid reviewing negative thoughts over
and over. Let go by getting rid of revenge fantasies and
grudges. Doing so doesn’t mean you don’t care;
it just conserves your energy for your own precious goals.
Enjoy the good stress of accomplishing something new. SAY
YES TO POSITIVE STRESS AND SOAR.
3. Deal with Stressors Differently
Every stressful situation presents different challenges.
When pressure builds, you can choose to alter your reaction,
avoid the situation, or accept it as it is. Each choice you
make has consequences. For example, your parents may stress
you out over keeping a curfew on school nights. If you avoid
rules rather than accept them, you may get grounded – then
you’ll
no longer need to worry about coming home late because you
won’t be going out! CONSIDER THE CONSEQUENCES BEFORE
CHOOSING YOUR COPING STYLE.
