Quality Assurance Supervisor-Canning 2nd Shift

Summary:
Coordinates quality assurance activities in their area of responsibility through inspection, form development, record review, and supervision of QA Canning Technicians. Performs independent assessment of various situations. Coordinates and/or participates in problem resolution activities. Assists in developing specifications.
Major Responsibilities include:
- Supervises activities of QA Technicians.
- Prepares and maintains forms used by QA Technicians which identify required testing and expected results. Assists in preparing corrective action suggestions for instances when targets are not achieved.
- Reviews all documents prepared by QA Technicians. Follows up on issues and questions in a timely manner.
- Oversees entry of information into Movex. Assures entries are correctly completed within the defined timeframe.
- Coordinates resolution of problems that arise as a result of observations and product testing.
- Places material on hold as required and coordinates investigation to determine final disposition. Releases holds and/or approves donations/disposals in a timely manner.
- Follows-up on reasons for disposals and suggests ways to minimize product and ingredient losses.
- Works closely with various groups to develop and implement procedures as necessary. Works closely with various groups to prepare and maintain specifications.
- Works with R&D to set acceptable specification ranges for new products. Notifies R&D and/or Technical Service when products or processes are not meeting expectations. Makes revisions based on approved changes by R&D and/or Technical Service.
- Prepares reports which summarize data obtained from QA evaluations and make conclusions that will assist in improving product quality.
- Collect samples for microbiological testing and submission of samples for testing.
- Obtains potential standards and coordinates tasting to confirm sample is suitable as a standard.
- Provides training, guidance, motivation, corrective action and performance reviews to QA Technicians. Communicates expectations, objectives and provides feedback on a regular basis.
Qualifications:
- BS in Biology, Food Science or the equivalent of a science-based degree
- 2-5 years of experience in the food industry required, canning experience preferred
- Successful completion of Better Processing School preferred
- 2-5 years of supervisory experience required
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written & verbal)
- Strong organizational skills, strong attention to detail, and procedure and process oriented
